Tatters Morris
Tatters begun life as the Helston Tatters roughly 10 years ago when the side was started by 2 local dancers Ashly and Eileen.

We are primarily a border morris side. Taking our dances from the morris tradition that grew up round the welsh borders in the counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire.  These dances use sticks instead of Hankies.

When dancing out we dress in traditional ‘Tatters’, shirts covered in ribbons and strips of fabric in our sides colours blue and black.  Traditionally border morris dancers would ‘black’ their faces up to hide there identity.

We have more recently branched out into rapper dancing.  This is a form of sword dancing that is part of the morris tradition.  It originated in the North East of England and the dances are done using a double handled rapper sword. To find out more see myths and legends.
